A brand new program is now offering Vermont students various ways of working toward a long-lasting career within the state.
The program is called Build Vermont Pathways. It’s a new job-creating collaboration between the Agency of Transportation and Vermont Technical College.

Students gathered before a VTrans panel Thursday morning to hear more about the career opportunities the program has to offer. Officials said what makes it so unique is that there are multiple “pathways” people can take to join — whether you’re a high school student, still in college or a veteran.
In his remarks, Governor Peter Shumlin described why this program is so important for Vermont, and many students expressed interest in getting involved.
“This pathways project makes your education affordable, it gives you internships while you’re in school, and it has you hit the ground running when we hire you for a great career in ensuring that we rebuild our infrastructure,” Shumlin explained.
“I work for an engineering company right now, and it would be good to kind of diversify — see what kind of jobs are out there for us VTC students,” freshman Derek Bevins said.
Just one of the pathways discussed today includes a two-year degree at Vermont Tech and a paid summer internship, which organizers said may lead directly to permanent employment.
