Director of Athletics & Recreation
The Intercollegiate Varsity Athletic Program at Vermont Tech is an integral part of the whole educational experience for student athletes.
The athletic department strives to provide an athletic program of excellence for all students and provides an equal opportunity to compete at the local, regional and national level. The opportunity to compete on an athletic team for Vermont Tech is considered a privilege, and it comes with responsibilities. As a participant in athletics at Vermont Tech, student-athletes not only access voluntary learning experiences that involve opportunities beyond the traditional classroom setting, but those student athletes also serve as ambassadors to the school, other schools, and the community. Our aim is to develop competitive student athletes, but not to lose sight of the educational values and the attributes learned in athletics that contribute to the complete education of the individual.
Vermont Tech is affiliated with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), a national governing body that provides quality intercollegiate athletic competition on a national level. The USCAA’s motto is “Leveling the Playing Field for Small Colleges”, and it exists to provide small colleges the opportunity to compete against like institutions in size and resources for National Championships.
Vermont Tech is part of the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC), which is affiliated with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA). The YSCC is one of four conferences to be accorded an automatic bid to USCAA post-season championship competition in all USCAA sanctioned sports where at least 6 teams compete within the conference. The YSCC is comprised of two and four year colleges in Northern New England and New York with enrollments similar to Vermont Tech. Some conference rivals, particularly New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI), Central Maine CC and Southern Maine CC have competed with Vermont Tech for more than forty years. Other teams that comprise the YSCC are: Paul Smith’s College, Hampshire College, Great Bay CC, Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, York County Community College, and the University of Maine/Augusta.
