Come Together for the Martin Luther King Day of Service

13 Jan 2017

“Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: ‘What are you doing for others?’” -Martin Luther King Jr., Civil Rights Leader and Activist

To honor the legacy of Dr. King, Vermont Tech students will be participating in the MLK Day of Service. Today is the day to give back to your community, your school, or those less fortunate. Volunteer opportunities include working with the Vermont Food Bank, the Central Vermont Humane Society, or improving the Vermont Tech Trail System. Grab a group of friends and pick a cause! Sign up with Seth or Kathleen in the dining hall or at Student Affairs office.

Another way to help out beyond this MLK Day of Service is to “pay it forward.” Paying it forward is all about helping others without expecting anything in return but for the benefit of mankind.

Seth and Kathleen will be handing out special Pay it Forward Pins in the dining hall from 11:00am-1:00pm. Students are encouraged to go out and do acts of kindness for others.  Once a student does a kind act, they give their pin to the individual and encourage them to pay it forward.  The student can then return to the office of Student Affairs to get another pin.  The Student Affairs staff will keep track of who is participating and the acts of kindness those students are doing. Plus your kindness will recognized with an entry into a drawing for a $100 Amazon Shopping Spree.

If you’re a student from the Williston campus, be sure to attend the noontime activity where we’ll build a wall of dreams. Coffee and snacks will be provided by the Student Affairs office too. We will all be able to benefit from the positive impact on campus immediately. Have fun!
