Feedback from College staff and faculty in climate surveys identified an opportunity to improve our sense of inclusiveness and community.
In response to this feedback, the President charged a Gender Issues Working Group with exploring the issue to propose up to four tactics/action items that will help improve the climate and culture of the college for staff and faculty, ensuring that we are offering a fair and positive place to work and learn. This Ad Hoc group developed ideas of which the President selected three to move forward with the help of implementation committees comprised of volunteer staff and faculty representatives. The three projects for FY17 include:
- Speaker Series
- Respect Awareness
- Diversity and Gender Equity Training
At the conclusion of the first year’s initiative, the College hosted four speaker events that were well attended, developed a communication campaign to model respectful behavior featuring Respect Advocates, and participated in two targeted training sessions. Summaries of the Speaker Series events can also be found online.
