Randolph, VT – Vermont Technical College is pleased to announce that Alex Gay, a sophomore Diesel Power Technology student, was recently selected to participate in the esteemed Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) program. Alex, the Randolph campus Student Council president at Vermont Tech, is one of only 75 Americans to be awarded the fellowship. Funded by the German Bundestag and the United States Congress, the CBYX is a reciprocal exchange program between the United States and Germany, designed to strengthen ties and understanding between the people of both countries.
“I’m extremely honored and excited to have the opportunity to participate in such a prestigious exchange program,” said Alex. “Living and studying in Germany for the academic year will be an invaluable experience that I look forward to sharing with my peers.”
Selected student participants immerse themselves into German culture and participate in intensive language training, university study, an internship in a German-speaking work environment, and accommodation in a German home or student residence. CBYX participants act as ambassadors of their home country and culture while immersing themselves in the academic, professional, and everyday life of their host culture.
“We’re exceptionally proud to have a Vermont Tech student selected to participate in CBYX,” said Vermont Tech President Dr. Philip Conroy. “With only 75 American students selected nationwide, it’s a great honor and a valuable learning experience for Alex. We’re confident he’ll represent us well.”
While the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange program is open to candidates in all career fields, candidates in business, vocational, scientific, engineering, technical, and agricultural fields are especially encouraged to apply. Alex will leave for Germany this August and return to the United States to share his experiences the following June.
