Sarah Day

Military veteran Sarah Day is graduating from Vermont Tech at the age of 33.

Even though she may not be the typical age of a college student, Sarah doesn’t for a second feel out of place at Vermont Tech.

“What’s great about Vermont Tech is that there are students of many ages here. I’m certainly not the youngest student, but I’m not the oldest either,” she says. “I have never felt out of place because of my age. In fact, I have always felt welcomed at Vermont Tech, which has been very comforting.”

She spent the first four years after high school serving in the U.S. Air Force, followed by a ten-year service in the Vermont Air National Guard. When she started thinking about what she wanted to do for a career, she decided to attend Vermont Tech and earned an associate’s degree in nursing in 2008.

Six years later, the White River Junction resident returned to Vermont Tech for a second time to explore a career in business.

“Vermont Tech is a great school to attend if you’re a veteran of the military,” she says. “They work closely with the VA (Veterans Affairs), and make wonderful accommodations to help veterans who are returning to school.”

Now a student in the four-year Business Management Program, Sarah feels more prepared than ever for her career.

“I feel that Vermont Tech has prepared me to be successful,” she says. “I’m also confident that I have been provided with all the necessary tools and knowledge to assist me with excelling in the future.”
