Marc Griffith

Marc Griffith originally attended college in the early 80’s.  His life-long love of horses and desire to learn more about them encouraged Marc to return to college for a degree in Equine Studies.

“Initially I was somewhat apprehensive about returning to school. After a few days of awkwardness, I settled in and feel totally comfortable now.”

Vermont Tech’s Equine Studies Program spans 2 years.

“In the beginning, I thought graduation was a long way off. Now I can’t believe I’m almost half-way done, the time went by so fast.”

In those two years, students learn a variety of skills from stable management and equine lameness, to riding instruction and equine massage, as well as a range of riding styles. Hands-on instruction is held at the Vermont Tech Equine Studies Facility, just 10 minutes from the Randolph Center Campus. The students work with and care for the horses that reside there.

“I chose Vermont Tech because of its small size, outstanding reputation, and because it had an Equine Program that was very comprehensive in its scope and focused more exclusively on horses than other Equine Programs. My passion is horses so I feel so fortunate that I can actually major in them!”

Marc spends his free time riding and training in eventing with his two horses. He recently received the Equine Faculty Award, which is given to the Vermont Tech Equine student with the highest GPA. After he completes his last year, Marc plans to train young horses for United States Eventing Association (USEA) competitions.

“I would suggest that incoming students take advantage of all the great opportunities available to them at Vermont Tech. For instance, I recently attended an Equine Reproduction Workshop and I am a member of the Dressage Team.”
