Vermont Tech is continually trying to find ways to encourage sustainability practices and ways to reduce energy usage on campus in order to minimize our carbon footprint and save money and resources.

The less we have to spend on energy and waste removal, the less we have to raise tuition and other charges.

You can help by taking the following steps:
  • Turn off lights whenever you leave a room.
  • Turn off appliances when not in use
  • Turn off computers when not in active use.
  • Hook all of your electronic devices to a power strip and turn it off when you go to bed.
  • Leave windows closed during cold weather
  • Use compact fluorescent bulbs for lighting
  • Recycle
  • Use cold water when you wash clothes
  • Keep showers short
  • Don't leave water running when shaving or brushing teeth
  • Participate in Energy Reduction challenges.
  • Carpool
  • Double side printing whenever possible
  • Notify your Resident Director of Physical Plant if you see a problem or have a suggestion on energy reduction.
The college has done a number of things to encourage sustainability including:
  • Formation of an Energy Reduction Task Force to look at ways to reduce energy usage
  • Energy misers on all vending machines.
  • Campus Center is LEED certified.
  • Tray less meals in the dining hall have significantly reduced food waste and energy usage.
  • Partnerships with Efficiency Vermont and Vermont Campus Energy Group
  • Recycling-recycled paper is shredded and brought to the farm as cow bedding, reducing the need to purchase sawdust for bedding.
  • Encouraging double sided printing
  • Greendisk e-waste recycling
