Brya Emery

“I would not trade my degree of my experience at Vermont Tech for anything,” says Brya Emery “It was (and still is) a place I call home.”

Brya started at Vermont Tech in the VAST program concurrently earning college credits as she finished high school. She went on to earn both an associate and a bachelor’s degree in Business Technology and Management while working at the College’s Admission’s Office. During that time, she learned communication skills and applied them to helping promote Vermont Tech to prospective students.

“As a VAST graduate and someone who never thought she’d have the opportunity to get more than an associate degree, I loved obtaining my bachelor’s degree.”

Her classroom knowledge and practical experience have since led her into administrative roles at different Vermont colleges throughout her career, including working in college admissions departments at Southern Vermont College, Lyndon State College, and Norwich University.

“I fell in love with higher education, working with students and found a real passion for understanding how to market to them,” Brya said of the influence her business education has had on her career path.

Today, she is the Director of Admissions and Enrollment for College Steps in Waterbury, VT. “There’s nothing day-to-day about working in Admissions. It’s the beauty of working in this field. As I recently took the Director of Admissions and Enrollment position, I have found a great deal of my initial work is focused on analyzing and either updating or developing processes, efficiencies, and data collection.”

She goes on to say, “Some days, I spend the day on the phone, talking to families, co-workers, schools, and organizations that are interested in what we do and how we do it. Other days can include various tasks: research, reporting, writing acceptance letters and contracts, helping manage events and communication tracking of attendees, travel to our campuses or transition fairs and other events, and generally assisting with marketing, etc.”

Brya’s education prepared her well for these many responsibilities.
“I understand more about how to work with people and how to use my basic knowledge of a topic to get my foot in the door, do research, and provide the best answers, work, and product.”

“The most rewarding part of my job is my job. I have always loved what I do. I love working to help students continue their education.” Brya is glad to have a real passion for her job and enjoys the support of a well-connected team.
