Governor and Labor Commissioner Declare 4th Annual National Apprenticeship Week in Vermont

MONTPELIER – Vermont Department of Labor Commissioner Lindsay Kurrle and Governor Phil Scott celebrated the fourth annual National Apprenticeship Week today, with a commemorative proclamation signing.

Apprenticeship week is a dedicated week each year that highlights the importance of Vermont’s Apprenticeship Program, and aims to bring together employers, apprentices, and technical training providers to celebrate the success and encourage more people to choose apprenticeships as a path to a great career. This year, Vermont is also focusing on recent funding awards and coordination efforts that are expanding the development and availability of apprenticeship opportunities across the state.

“This week is a great opportunity bring awareness to the value of apprenticeship training – both to employers, job seekers, and the Vermont economy as a whole,” said Department of Labor Commissioner Lindsay Kurrle. “In this tight labor market, apprentices that complete their programs have extremely high employment and retention rates, with over 90 percent of individuals immediately entering employment after they complete their program. Economic growth in Vermont depends on the continued development of skilled workers. Registered apprenticeships are helping to fill this need.”

The Governor and Commissioner were joined at the press conference by Vermont Technical College and Vermont Works for Women who spoke about newly expanded apprenticeship opportunities that will help jobseekers in new sectors achieve their career goals through work-based training.
