2018 Commencement Faculty/VIP Info

Welcome!

There will be three (3) commencement ceremonies held on the Vermont Technical College Randolph Center campus.

Friday, May 18 | 10 am

Faculty - please arrive in the Campus Center by 9 am.

  • Faculty will robe in Campus Center. Cassie Holbrook will be the point person in this area for questions. Faculty are not required to assist students with check in.
  • Department/Program Chairs will head up to library no later than 9:30 to join the platform party for pictures and to line up as it exits the Library.
  • Remainder of faculty will line up and follow the Faculty Marshals and be ready to exit Campus Center by 9:45. Procession will move to Morey Green to meet up with the Platform Party.
  • Faculty, led by the Faculty Marshals, will process up to the entrance of the tent and stop to allow the students to pass through their double line. Please follow the lead of the coordinators who will be at the tent to direct you.
  • Marshals will then escort the students up the center aisle and direct them into their rows. Coordinators will be there to help direct the students into the correct rows.
  • When the students are in the rows, the marshals will lead the faculty to the front of the tent, to the right side, where they will be directed to rows to be seated. There will be a coordinator to help direct faculty into rows.
  • At the end of the ceremony, The College Marshal  will lead the platform party out, followed by the faculty. Faculty should form two lines as they leave the rows.
  • The Faculty Marshals will then direct the students out of the rows.
  • Campus Center will not be locked when you leave for the ceremony.

VIP / Platform Party - please arrive in Hartness Library by 9 am.

  • The Platform Party will robe in Hartness Library. Michelle Graham will be the point person in this area for questions.
  • Department/Program Chairs will head up to library no later than 9:30 to join the platform party for pictures and to line up as it exits the Library.
  • VIPS and Department/Program Chairs will be on the platform – chart will be provided, and names will be on the chairs. Michelle Graham will ensure you are in the correct spot as you process to the tent.
  • Pictures will be taken at 9:30 in front of the Library, followed by procession to the tent.
  • The College Marshal will lead the platform party into the tent. Please follow the lead of the coordinators who will be at the tent to direct you.
  • At the end of the ceremony, The College Marshal will lead the platform party out, followed by the faculty.
  • The library will be locked when you leave, so you may leave your belongings and return after the ceremony to pick them up.

PARKING INFORMATION:

  • All parking will be in the main parking lots adjacent to the soccer field unless you have special needs for yourself or passengers. Shuttles will be available beginning at least one hour prior to each ceremony (i.e. wheelchair, walker, or difficulties walking a long distance).

  • Special needs parking will be in the Morey/SHAPE parking lots; please follow road signs. (i.e. wheelchair, walker, or difficulties walking a long distance)

  • We encourage you to car pool since parking is limited.  Most parking will be a 5-10 minute walk from the President’s House. Handicap and assisted parking will be available.  Golf cart shuttle service will be available from parking lots.

  • Please plan ahead for traffic congestion coming to and leaving campus. Watch for volunteers directing traffic. 

  • All campus shuttles will stop running 15 minutes before each ceremony.

  • VIPs will receive a parking pass prior to the ceremony from the President's Office. Please park in the Morey/SHAPE parking lot. 

CEREMONY INFORMATION:

  • Please watch the weather forecast and plan accordingly. Commencement occurs under a tent, though you will process outside – possibly in the elements – before getting to the tent.  It’s generally cooler under the tent, especially in the morning. Please be prepared.

  • We will have interpreter services and a special section for seating for those in need of this service.

  • Please leave all non-service animals at home; they will not be allowed at the site of commencement

  • Commencement will be held under the tent, on the lawn of the President’s House, on the Randolph Center, Vermont campus. Please refer to the department list at the top to find out when your major will be graduating.

  • The College maintains the expectation that all degree candidates will be appropriately attired and display acceptable standards of behavior.

  • Vermont Tech requests that no food or beverages other than water be brought into the tent area.

  • Smoking in designated areas only.

  • NO PETS of any kind are allowed on the campus.  Please be sure any guests leave their pets at home.  Certified Service Animals are allowed.

BOOKSTORE:

The College Bookstore will be open one hour before and after each ceremony for your shopping pleasure.

PHOTOGRAPHS:

GradImages provides the photography services at the Commencement ceremony.  Proofs will be available online or through the mail.  There is no obligation to buy.  Graduates are required to complete a readers card prior to the Commencement ceremony.  These cards are used by the company to send proofs.

HONOR SOCIETIES:

If students are a member of an honor society they will be given a cord at check-in. If they have already been given a cord previously, they should bring it with them to the ceremony.
