This course studies the design of structural systems, focusing on solid sawn wood and engineered wood products. Structural loads, general framing concepts, structural drawings, and (primarily) wood structural systems are presented. The design of various wood structural configurations such as tension members, beams, columns, and connections is covered in accordance with relevant design codes. Structural foundations are introduced. Laboratory work consists primarily of the application of building and design codes to the design and analysis of structural systems.
