Tony Ioannidis

Tony always planned to college to earn his degree and further his education. He knew that Vermont Tech would help him achieve his goals, all for an affordable investment. Tony ultimately chose Vermont Tech because it was the only college in Vermont with a Fire Science program. He was a commuter student, so location was a big factor for him when considering options for higher education.

Tony came to Vermont Tech following a gap year between high school and college. He had to get used to taking notes and attending classes, but he adjusted quickly to the college life.

A gamer in his spare time, Tony proudly serves as Lieutenant for the Waitsfield-Fayston Fire Department and as an EMT for the Mad River Valley Ambulance Service. Tony has a busy life on campus. Besides his two jobs and school, Tony is also involved in the Vermont First Responders club where he has learned even more about responding to emergency situations. He recommends all Fire Science majors try it out.

Fire Science is available at Vermont Tech as an associates degree. Those enrolled in the program stick together throughout their two years, and have even become like a small family. In fact, Tony cites the EMT class as his best experience at Vermont Tech so far.

“The instructor was amazing. Also, being able to spend more time with my fellow classmates was always a plus.”

Tony says that in order to succeed, students in the Fire Science program “should be willing to focus and stay on task. It’s a lot of great information, so you don’t want to miss anything.”
