Nurse Re-Entry

The field of nursing continues to grow as people age and are provided increased access to health care. Nursing is a rewarding career, offering the opportunity to help others, average wages far above the average for the state overall, and job stability. The Nurse Re-Entry program is a self-paced course of study intended for formerly registered nurses or licensed practical nurses whose licensure has lapsed.

This program allows students to successfully transition back into their roles as Registered Nurse (RN) of Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with the completion of 11 modules for an RN or seven modules for an LPN. In addition to their coursework, students will complete a number of clinical practice hours in order to achieve re-licensure.

Topics covered in the coursework include trends in nursing, the nursing process, functional health patterns, review of pharmacology, pathology and patient information.

The objective of this re-entry program is to prepare graduates to successfully transition back into the role of Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse.

Details of the RN Re-Entry Program:

  • 11 Modules of Coursework
  • 120 Hours of Didactic Studies
  • 120 Hours of Clinical Practice
  • NCLEX Exam is not required upon completion of the program

Details of the LPN Re-Entry Program:

  • 7 Modules of Coursework
  • 80 Hours of Didactic Studies
  • 80 Hours of Clinical Practice
  • NCLEX Exam is not required upon completion of the program

For both the LPN and RN programs, students will be required to find their own clinical site and preceptor. These are not provided by the college.

The re-entry program is accepted for licensure by the Vermont Board of Nursing.

The cost of the re-entry program is $1,500 for RN’s or LPN’s, which covers all course materials, supervision and coordination of the course, correction of exams, certificate of completion, record-keeping and consultation between course participants and clinical supervisors as needed. Other expenses include textbooks and special equipment, such as a stethoscope, bandages, scissors, uniforms and nurse’s shoes.
