Entrepreneurship & Small Business Planning
- Type of Degree: Minor
- Location: Williston Campus, Randolph Center Campus
- Credit Requirements: Variable
Entrepreneurship is a valuable skill set for everyone, not just business majors. The world of business is changing, owning a service shop or a business today is a totally different ball game than it was 25 years ago. For Vermont Tech students, the combination of an applied technical skill like Engineering or Automotive Technologies and an entrepreneurial knowledge-base will be a big asset in today’s economy.
Vermont Tech offers new pathways for entrepreneurial success. Through a combination of business planning and entrepreneurship courses, students with any Vermont Tech 2-year degree can enhance their education and gain the skills associated with starting their own business or pursuing a career in a start-up enterprise.
Depending on your major and interests, you can complete a minor or concentration in entrepreneurship or a specialization in small business planning. View the curriculum to learn more about each program
Entrepreneurial Minor for non-business majors
Complete the two entrepreneurial courses – Foundations of Entrepreneurship and Applied Entrepreneurship – and four business planning courses, and you will be awarded a Minor in Entrepreneurship. No more than nine credits of the minor may be applied to a major degree requirement.
Entrepreneurial Concentration for business majors
Complete the two entrepreneurial courses – Foundations of Entrepreneurship and Applied Entrepreneurship – and four business planning courses, and you may earn a Concentration in Entrepreneurship. No more than nine credits of the concentration may be applied to a major degree requirement.
Small Business Planning Specialization for degree and non-degree students
Complete four courses and receive a Specialization in Small Business Planning. Upon successful completion, these twelve credits may be applied to graduation requirements.
There are no prerequisites for the minor, concentration nor specialization, although individual courses may have prerequisites. Interested students should complete an application form available from here or from the Vermont Technical College Business Department. Minors and Concentrations are limited to students enrolled in baccalaureate programs.
Coursework may be taken at Vermont Tech’s Williston or Randolph campuses, subject to enrollment limits. Not every course will be offered every semester, so interested participants should consult with their advisor about completion, or contact Lori Stroutsos in Randolph or Allan Rodgers in Williston.
Some courses may already be included in a degree program, or as an elective. Those courses are applicable to the Entrepreneurial or Small Business Planning coursework.
