Windsor Roy

As a 14th-generation Vermonter who grew up on a dairy farm, Windsor Roy knows about hard work. He’s a first-generation college student, and he doesn’t want to waste his hard-earned tuition money.

“I have worked since the first day I can remember to pay for college,” Windsor explains. “Even now I go home for the summer and weekends to Barnet, Vermont, to work on my parent’s farm. I have learned that hard work pays off if you’re willing to go the full length. I know that it is my money paying for my tuition, so failing or doing poorly is not an option.”

Although he graduated with honors from St. Johnsbury Academy, Windsor hasn’t let up on studying.

“In college, I have had to work twice as hard, but I have never backed down from work, and I plan on keeping that,” he says.

It turns out that electrical engineering has been a great fit for Windsor.

“I’ve learned from working on the farm to be doer and tinkerer. You have to be able to make quick smart choices and be a handy person in order to achieve success. I love working on equipment or working in general,” he says. “I like to keep my hands busy at all times.”

He visited colleges before deciding where to go, and Vermont Tech won him over. “The teachers were always right there helping the students,” he says. “I liked to see that students were receiving the attention that they needed to better help them understand the criteria.”

Once enrolled at Vermont Tech, he was happy to discover that the hands-on field he had chosen would result in a high-paying job. His degree from Vermont Tech will help him achieve his goals. “I am looking forward to my career as an electrical engineer.”
