Doireann Chesbrough

When Doireann was exploring colleges, Vermont Tech was advertised as having 96% job placement rate, our most recent report has that same rate at 100%. She is excited to join the workforce after she graduates, preferably in an urban fire department around Burlington, and Vermont Tech has a history of delivering on that goal.

“When I toured the college for the first time, I was very impressed with the beautiful campus and the spectacular location, but it was the well-equipped fire science lab and burn building that sold me. I wanted the ‘hands-on’ education that Vermont Tech provides.” Not only do Doireann and her classmates get to work with high-tech equipment, the Fire Science class tours fire departments across Vermont and New Hampshire to learn from industry professionals.

Her success at Vermont Tech is entirely her own, but Doireann also receives amazing support from the faculty and staff.

“My fire science professors have gone above and beyond in this program. They have taken time out of their weekends and extra time during the week to enhance our curriculum.”

The athletics program was another reason Doireann was drawn to Vermont Tech. She plays on the Vermont Tech Basketball Team as a forward.

“Being a student-athlete at Vermont Tech really adds a positive part to the college experience.” Games take the Knights all over New England and New York.

Before college, Doireann had lived with her parents in Burlington her entire life. So, when it came time to move into the Vermont Tech dormitories, it was a huge transition. But, she had no fear and now claims that dorm life was a positive experience for her. She encourages new students to join as many interesting clubs they can because it is a great way to meet friends outside of your major.
