  • Student intern welcomes the challenge and opportunity to contribute to the bottom line.
  • Student intern is an enthusiastic participant in on the job learning.
  • Student intern can lead to permanent employment. (90% of Vermont Tech summer interns accepted permanent employment with IBM in 2000.)

The first internship program at Vermont Technical College began through a partnership of the college with IBM to address the tremendous shortage of technical talent in the Burlington area. Given the increasing demands in the semiconductor industry, IBM needed to reinvent a recruiting strategy that would interest college graduates. The solution came in the form of a summer intern program that would combine challenging assignments, training classes and the promise of a permanent assignment upon completion of a college degree should the student do well.

Today, many companies throughout New England turn to Vermont Tech for their summer employment needs. If you are interested in starting an internship program, please contact the Career Services Office at 802-728-1320 and speak to Lauri Sybel or email her at: lsybel@vtc.vsc.edu.
