Women's Soccer
Women's Soccer made its debut as a varsity sport at Vermont Tech in the Fall of 2006. Jennifer Norton, a graduate of nearby Johnson State College was selected to spearhead the program. Spearhead it she did. Most first year programs struggle. In her first season, Coach Norton led the Vermont Tech ladies to a solid 7-7 record and a position in the Sunrise Conference Final Four. When Coach Norton was initially hired, Athletic Director John Dyer said, "We are extremely fortunate to have found a young and infectiously enthusiastic person like Jenn to kick off this program. It will be a pleasure to watch this program grow."
Wow! Did the women's soccer program ever grow!
In only its second year, Coach Norton's team exceeded every conceivable expectation. The women's soccer team captured Vermont Tech's first ever women's championship in the Yankee Small College Conference, defeating rival and perennial powerhouse New Hampshire Tech 3-2 in the YSCC Conference Championship Tournament final. The win gave our Vermont Tech women a coveted berth in the USCAA National Championship Tournament in Rochester Hills, Michigan. The team posted an overall regular season record of 11-6-1 and also qualified for the Sunrise Conference Final Four for the second year in a row.
Team captain Shannon Leland was joined by freshman goaltender Jessica Arkley and freshman forward Amy Galipeault in being named to the USCAA All-American Team.
The Women's Soccer team will play in both the Sunrise Conference and the Yankee Small College Conference during the 2008 season.
Coach Norton also serves Vermont Tech as Head Athletic Trainer, Assistant Athletic Director and SHAPE Supervisor. She can be reached at 802-728-1384 or via email at jnorton@vtc.edu.
