Men's Soccer
The Wade Floyd era of Vermont Tech Soccer began with the 2006 season. Having compiled an impressive .846 winning percentage and having led his team to the state finals for two consecutive years, Coach Floyd established himself as one of Vermont's rising young stars among the ranks of New England's high school coaches. Coach Floyd has brought his energy, enthusiasm and drive to the small college ranks at Vermont Tech. The Green Knights have a long history of soccer success, having qualified for the USCAA National Tournament five times over the twelve years. In 2000, the team finished second in the USCAA National Championship Tournament.
After a four year down cycle, Coach Floyd and his players are bringing the Men's Soccer program back. This year's team qualified for the Yankee Small College Conference Final Four for the first time in the past five years. The team ended in a three way tie for fourth place in the Sunrise Conference, but lost out on a playoff berth by virtue of the tie breaker system.
The 2007 team was dominated by underclassmen Men's Soccer finished with an overall record of 5-7-5. Sophomore Tim Quinn earned All Conference honors in both the Sunrise Conference and the Yankee Small College Conference.
Returning to next year's squad are juniors Chris Minor and Tim Bessette; sophomores Glenn Brimmer, Matt Huizenga, Sam Rosen and Dan Underwood; and freshman standout Darren Rivard. Lost to graduation will be four year starter and perennial YSCC All Conference goaltender Matt Rendine. Matt suffered a season ending shoulder injury in early October. Backup goalie freshman Will Chadwick, who also returns next year, performed admirably in his place.
Coach Floyd is looking to put together a solid recruiting class to add to the 2007 lettermen. Good things lie ahead for Men's Soccer.
