Baseball
Vermont Tech offers one of the most active small college baseball programs in New England. Excluding play-offs, the team plays a fifty-game schedule over the course of the academic year. Vermont Tech maintains national baseball affiliations with the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA - Division II) and the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA - Division II). While NCAA Division III programs are limited to a single day of action in the fall, Vermont Tech is not encumbered by any such restrictions. Fall is an absolutely ideal time to play baseball in New England. The weather is warm, the sun shines brightly and the leaves on the hillsides are turning. The baseball team plays a 20-22 game schedule in the fall. The schedule commences in late August and finishes in mid-October.
The fall schedule is dominated by games with Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponents. A sixteen game league schedule is followed by a Final Four tournament played at Hadlock Field (Home of the Triple A Portland Sea Dogs) in Portland, Maine. Additional games are scheduled against Vermont rivals Lyndon State College, St. Michael's College, and Norwich University. Vermont will host the inaugural "Sap Bucket Fall Baseball Tournament" for participating Vermont and New England Colleges in the fall of 2009.
The 25 game spring schedule commences in March and continues through mid-May. Vermont Tech competes in the NAIA affiliated Sunrise Conference in the spring. The Sunrise Conference opponents include NAIA baseball powerhouse Fisher College from Boston, MA, University of Maine at Presque Isle, SUNY Canton, Paul Smith's College and The College of St. Joseph. The schedule includes games against rival Vermont and New England colleges such as Southern Vermont College, Castleton State College, Norwich University, St. Michael's College, and Hesser College.
The winner of the Sunrise Conference proceeds to the 32 team NAIA National Tournament. Vermont Tech also participates in the USCAA. Each year the top ten teams in the USCAA are invited to a National Championship Tournament. Student athletes participating in the baseball program have two opportunities to participate in a National Championship Tournament.
