National and Conference Affiliations
Vermont Tech participates in two athletic conferences. Each conference has a separate national affiliation.
The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) is comprised of two and four year colleges in Northern New England with enrollments similar to Vermont Tech. Some conference rivals, particularly New Hampshire Technical Institute, Central Maine Tech and Southern Maine Tech have competed with Vermont Tech for more than thirty years. Other teams that comprise the YSCC are: Hesser College, Unity College, Eastern Maine CC, Northern Maine CC, and the University of Maine/Augusta. The YSCC is affiliated with the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) and is the only conference to be accorded an automatic bid to USCAA post-season championship competition.
In 2006-07 Vermont Tech joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and its Region X affiliate, the Sunrise Conference. Member schools include, the College of St. Joseph (Rutland, VT), Fisher College (Boston, MA), Paul Smith's College (Paul Smith's, NY), the University of Maine/Fort Kent, the University of Maine/Machias and the State University of New York (SUNY) at Canton. The NAIA supports a "conference direct" championship tournament qualification system. Accordingly, in all sports where at least six Sunrise teams compete, the conference champion has an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.
