The Financial Aid Application Process
Apply now for grants and loans for 2008-2009 semesters. Your financial aid must be in place prior to Fall registration.
The Federal Application for Student Financial Aid (FAFSA) is required for need-based financial aid at Vermont Technical College. The students must meet the eligibility requirements and maintain satisfactory academic progress to be eligible for Financial Aid.

Gather the documents you'll need
- 2007 federal taxes and W-2's (yours and your parents if you are applying as a dependent student.
- Statement of 2007 benefits including Social Security, TANF, child support and other untaxed income.
- Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) PIN number. This serves as your electronic signature for filing the FAFSA and speeds up the application process. If you don't have a PIN, apply fore one at www.pin.ed.gov. If you are applying as a dependent student one of your parents will need a FAFSA PIN number as well.

Complete and submit the FAFSA
You may complete your FAFSA online (www.fafsa.edu.gov) or you may request a paper version from the Financial Aid Office. The FAFSA is our official application for federal aid and is also required by most states in their grant application process. Our Title IV School Code is 003698 and is required in Step Six of the application.
We encourage you to use completed tax information when completing the FAFSA, but when necessary estimated figures may be used. Financial aid awards based on estimated financial information will be subject to review and revision once taxes are finalized.
Once our aid office receives the FAFSA, we will send you a tracking letter indicating so and we will request both student and parent SIGNED 1040's (for dependent students) for the previous year.

Complete and submit state grant application
If you are a Vermont resident, apply for the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) Grant. It's fast, it's easy, and could provide you with additional grant funds!

- FILING DEADLINES

For 2008-2009 Academic Year
Priority Filing Deadline: March 1, 2008
Deadlines do not affect loan eligibility. Award letters will be mailed in Mid March for accepted students with complete financial aid files.
- CONDITIONS FOR FEDERAL ASSISTANCE

- Must be either a citizen or eligible non-citizen of the United States
- Must have a valid Social Security number
- For federal and institutional aid must be enrolled in a degree program
- For student loans, must be enrolled at least half-time (6 credits)
- Cannot owe a refund on a federal student grant nor be in default on a federal student loan
- Must meet minimum standards of academic progress as outlined in the Catalog
