Allow us to introduce: Melissa Shekinah
Business Technology class of 2008
Melissa Shekinah is a nontraditional student-a single mother of two-who will be graduating with her bachelor's degree in May of 2008. She has been a resident of Vermont since the spring of 2001 and says "Vermont is the first place I've ever lived that feels like home."
The past four years have been very life changing as she explains, "Vermont Tech has offered more than an education. It's opened my eyes to the world and helped me travel it as well. Because of VTC, I was able to visit Germany one semester and help rebuild homes in New Orleans the next." She is also an active officer in Lambda.
Gaining a college degree has always seemed to be more of a dream than a reality for her. However, with the small class structures and much needed personal communication her teachers offered, the past four years have proven that anything is possible with a little muscle and the right environment. When she graduates, Melissa plans on working in Montpelier for the State of Vermont and writing in her spare time.
