FAQ

1. Can I have a Single Room?
Not in the Fall, we are too full! In the Spring it may be possible to have a single, but you need to make a request in writing to the Director of Student Life, who will fulfill requests in the order in which they are received if space is available.

2. Can I change rooms?
We have a two-week room freeze at the beginning of each semester in which students must stay put and give their new roommates a chance before making a request to change rooms. The Director of Student Life arranges all room changes. Students interested in changing rooms must make an appointment to discuss their request prior to moving their belongings. The Director will evaluate the request with the academic success of the student in mind.

3. Can I commute next semester?
Generally the answer is no. Students have signed a housing contract and without serious reasons for needing to live at home, a student's request will not be granted. All requests need to be made to the Director in writing. Students should not sign leases without first being released from their housing contracts. Signing a lease will not get a student out of their housing contract.

4. Can I come back from break early?
Only those students who are employed on campus may return from break early if their campus employer makes arrangements with the housing office before break. The same is true of students who are on sports teams. -The coach must make arrangements for the team with the housing office before break.

5. How does room lottery work?
In the spring students are assigned a lottery number based on the number of credits they have completed. Those students with the higher number of credits get to chose their rooms for the next fall semester before those with lower numbers of credits. On room lottery night, students arrive to pick their room and roommate based on their lottery number. Once they have picked their rooms they must sign their contract and make arrangements to pay their housing deposit before the close of the spring semester in order to hold their space.

6. What should I bring to school with me?
Some suggestions include: Pillow, blankets, x-long sheets, calendar, day planner, alarm clock, flip flops, refrigerator, desk supplies, toiletries, towel, fan, long TV cable, TV, stereo, shower caddy, laundry supplies, lamp, book bag, memo board, power strip, surge protector, camera, sporting equipment, snacks, set of utensils, one place setting.

7. What can't I bring to school with me?
Space heaters, dart boards, irons, hotplates, microwaves, sandwich makers, candles, Christmas lights, toasters, toaster ovens, extension cords, halogen lights, incense, paint ball guns, stun guns, spot lights, knives more than 6 inches long.

8. What is the guest policy?
Students are allowed to have a guest member come twice a week so long as it does not disturb their roommate. All guests must be signed in with the Resident Assistant on Duty. All guests under the age of 16 must have their request to visit campus confirmed with a legal guardian by the Resident Director of the building they are visiting.

9. How are housing placements made?
First-year housing placements are made based on academic major, age, and mutual interests. The Director weighs all information provided by the student on their housing contract to determine the best roommate possible. There are times however, such as when rooms are full, that it is not always possible to match up students as we would like to.
