New course enables students to gain the aeronautical skill, knowledge and experience to meet the requirements of a Private Pilot Certificate —

Randolph, Vt. — Vermont Tech is pleased to announce that the college is offering an Aviation Private Pilot Ground School Course for the fall 2013 semester on the Williston, Vt. campus. This course, commonly referred to as “Ground Training,” allows students to achieve the knowledge, skills and experience needed to meet the requirements of a Private Pilot Certificate with an Airplane Category rating and a Single-Engine Land class rating. With registration available until August 15, this class is open to VTC and VSC students, as well as any professionals and those looking to further develop or shift their career.
“The introduction of the Private Pilot Certificate is an important addition to the Professional Pilot degree program we currently offer,” said Doug Smith, director of the Private Pilot program. “We’re excited to be able to offer this additional certification, which is significant for both our current aviation students and members of the community who wish to expand their career with Continuing Education.”
Upon completion of the course, students will be granted the eligibility and required sign-off to take the FAA Private Pilot Written Exam. Additionally, it establishes a collegiate level knowledge foundation to begin flight training, or taking commensurate with flight training if desired for Private Pilot Certification.
This 14-week course begins on August 21 and costs $800, which includes expenses for textbooks. It will be held on Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8 p.m. and taught by a FAA Certified Flight Instructor. VTC and VSC students may take this course for three credit hours as an elective, if desired.
