Vermont Tech, a regional leader in educating nursing professionals, has been granted Step One Provisional Approval from the Vermont State Board of Nursing to launch an online bachelor of nursing program.
“This is a pivotal moment for our nursing program and for Vermont Tech,” said President Philip A. Conroy. “We will now have a seamless pathway from the practical nursing or associate’s degree to the bachelor’s degree in nursing. Students who do not have the income or time to complete four years of school in sequence will now be able to work at their own pace and within their means to achieve this credential.”
Currently, Vermont Tech offers nursing courses at its two residential campuses in Williston and Randolph Center, regional campuses in Brattleboro and Bennington and at seven nursing campuses located throughout the state The curriculum provides preparation for both the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and the two-year associate’s degree (ADN) for the entry-level Registered Nurse (RN).
The BSN prepares nurses for a professional role away from the bedside with coursework in nursing science, research, leadership, and nursing informatics. At Vermont Tech, the BSN program will focus on the evolving scholar striving for excellence as an innovative problem-solver incorporating holistic, multi-cultural, caring principles into practice. It is expected that BSN graduates will form collaborative partnerships within organizations and communities, influencing health reform and policy in Vermont, the United States, and even globally.
“We have so many students who want the BSN but are already working full time as nursing professionals,” said Associate Professor of Nursing Meredith Roberts, who is coordinating the BSN development process. “This online program will allow students to take advantage of a high-quality and affordable program that they can do whenever and wherever they want in their own time frame. People sometimes think that distance learning is easy but the reality is just the opposite. The expectations are high and the program will require a highly disciplined commitment to learning.”
