About Us The Vermont Tech Market Garden started on our Randolph Center campus in 2007 with the help of students, staff, and faculty. In the first year the garden was solely for volunteers and all time, tools, and seed were donated. The vegetables went home with those who participated and to others in the community. Extra produce was delivered to the food shelf.
Since it's inception, the Vermont Tech Market Garden increased in size dramatically with the help of many volunteers. The garden expanded to around one acre. Volunteers are rewarded with credit at our weekly Farmer's Market which is held to sell the produce we raise. The goal of the market is to sell enough to maintain the garden, buy seed and tools, and hire some students for summer work. Practices The garden is not certified organic, but uses best practices and techniques. We do not use pesticides or herbicides in our garden. Future Plans In the future the Vermont Tech Market Garden hopes to continue to expand by adding cut flowers, berries, and other perennial vegetables/herbs. The garden will be an integral part of the Diversified Agriculture program. Mission The mission of Vermont Tech's Market Garden is to provide healthy food for the college and its surrounding community, and to teach students, staff, and faculty about food production and techniques.
