Time Management (Procrastination’s Successful Cousin)

If you’re one of those people who can’t figure out where your time goes, try keeping an hourly log for a week.  This will give you an accurate picture of how you are spending your time – the results may surprise you.  Next, create and use a realistic schedule and keep it with you.  Write down appointments, assignment due dates, hours for studying, etc. Make a “to do” list every day, and prioritize tasks into “must do,” “should do,” and “would be nice to do.”  Do the “must do” things first, or when your energy level is usually highest.  Set short-term and long-term goals, and think about how each task relates to your goals.  If fears are preventing you from setting or reaching goals, talk to a friend, family member, or counselor.  Sometimes just saying what your fears are lessens anxiety.  Don’t forget to include time for fun and relaxation in your schedule!
