Background:

This project is for a small business called LEDdynamics, located in Randolph, VT.

“LEDdynamics is a custom engineering company specializing in the design and

integration of LED technology for end-user and OEM applications.”

The Problem:

Design an automated miniature solder press that will…

u    Be able to solder pre-glued surface mount LED emitters to a metallic circuit board

u    Be able to test the LED after completion

u    Must be able to jig different sized boards

u    Must be faster and more efficient than hand assembly

Our Solution:

Our solution involves the use of…

u    An X table with an adjustable jig for metallic circuit boards.

u    A pneumatic air system, equipped with two cylinders, an emergency stop button and a go button.

u    A computer controlled soldering system

u    A computer controlled wellness testing system

System Overview:

This diagram is the original concept overview.

Color Legend:

Tan—control system

Green—power supplies

Blue—pneumatic system

Maroon—soldering system
