Problem Statement:
To develop a data collection system capable of analyzing information critical to the assessment of a vehicle accident
Background:
Airplane crash investigators have had the benefit of retrieving data from flight data recorders when determining what happened seconds before a crash. Now most new model cars have similar technology to assist in crash investigations.
Solution:
A microcontroller will be mounted inside a Black Box in the passenger compartment of a vehicle. The microcontroller will collect and store data from an X-Y accelerometer and the exsisting wheel speed sensors on the vehicle. The data will be stored in flash memory until it is downloaded to a Personal Computer from the black box.
