Electrical/Plumbing/Apprenticeship
Since 1999, Vermont Tech has been partnering with the Vermont Department of Labor to manage the related instruction component of the Registered Electrical and Plumbing Apprenticeship programs. Through these programs, students meet the classroom requirement to sit for the Vermont State Journeyman Exam.
Incorporated in to the level one and two Plumbing Apprenticeship classes are two of the three Plumbing Specialty licenses: - PS-1, Water Heater Specialist
- PS-2, Heating System Specialist
Class Frequency and Locations
Classes are traditionally held two nights a week at local technical centers. Currently classes are being held in Barre, Essex, Hartford, Newport, Rutland, Springfield, and St. Johnsbury. Classes start around Labor Day and run until mid-March for a total of 144 hours.
Distance Learning Classes
In order to make classes more easily accessible to every Vermonter, distance learning classes are now offered. They combine one night a week over Vermont Interactive Technologies (VIT) and one Saturday a month at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center. The distance learning classes are currently being offered for levels one and two of both Electrical and Plumbing. Plans are underway to expand this option for levels three and four.
Continuing Education Workshops
In addition to Apprenticeship classes, Continuing Education workshops are offered for licensed Electricians and Plumbers as well as Exam Prep workshops to prepare anyone planning to take the Journeyman’s or Master’s exam.
