Dual Enrollment Applicants

Why enroll in a college course if you’re still in high school?

  • As either a high school junior or senior, you have an opportunity to get an early taste of higher education to see if it’s right for you.
  • It’s a chance to take a class that may not be available at your school.
  • Earn high school credit toward your graduation requirements and earn Vermont Tech credits all at the same time (which may help to lighten your first-year course load at college).
  • It’s free! (There are programs that will pay for a limited number of courses; talk with your high school/tech center guidance counselor.)

Dual Enrollment vs.Concurrent Enrollment: What's the difference?

Dual Enrollment: courses taken at a Vermont Tech campus location alongside regular Vermont Tech students. Most freshman level courses are available for you to take if you meet the prerequisites. Students register with the Vermont Tech Registrar’s Office.

Concurrent Enrollment: courses taken at your high school or technical center location. Some Vermont high school and technical center teachers have been approved to teach actual Vermont Tech courses. This is an excellent opportunity for students who do not live close to a Vermont Tech campus location, but who have the academic ability to participate in college-level courses and get an early start to college.
